Reflection: Filling Yourself Up
To fill your cup is an expression that means to restore your energy—mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually.
When a battery-driven device runs low, it needs to be recharged. Human beings are similar—our energy needs to be restored to be our best selves. When we are our best selves, and when we feel our best, we are able to give more to others (in our family, our work, our relationships, etc.).
So the question is: how do we restore our energy? Honestly, I think everyone has “a different battery,” so naturally, different things fill us up! Take note of the times when your mind, body, and spirit feel in alignment, fulfilled, or at peace. When you notice it, make a mental note and commit to do those things more. Similarly, when you notice your energy is drained, note to place a boundary or remove that energy-drainer from your life.
This morning, I took time to journal about the practices that fill me up. These little things are part of my regular lifestyle—they are things that keep me full and being my best self.
