Reflection: Done is Better Than Good
Done is better than good.
– Elizabeth Gilbert
I continue to learn this one thing: that producing is better than perfecting.
Sometimes, when I aim to perfect, it prohibits me from producing at all — which may be even worse than a flawed product.
I thought about this the other day when I got one of those “time hops” back to my earlier content — after I cringed a little bit. I cringed at the presets I used, the things I said the camera, the way I said things to the camera — yeah, I cringed.
I cringed at that girl, but ultimately, I decided I have so much love for that girl, too. I love that girl because she put herself out there, despite all her tremendous flaws. She produced, rather than perfected.
And honestly… years from now, I will likely look back at this time in 2023 and cringe at myself a little bit as well.
But at least I’m here, producing.
Because I believe this is really the only way to create — to put ourselves out there without fear of judgement—from others or ourselves. If others like what you produce, wonderful. If they don’t, that’s cool too.
Maybe it doesn’t matter that we do things fantastically — maybe it only matters that we do them.
At least that’s what I’m starting to believe.
