Jenni Kayne: Most Frequent Questions Answered

I am not one to play favorites, but I’ll be honest: Jenni Kayne is my favorite. Not only do I love working with the Jenni Kayne family (it’s such a great community), but I actually love everything Jenni creates.

Jenni’s eye for design and detail is unmatchable, both in her home and closet collections. As you may know, I own her furniture, kitchen accessories, candles, and of course, all the things she offers for closet (knits, dresses, tees, shoes… everything!). Her chosen materials, silhouettes, even colorways… every subtle detail is done with utter perfection.

Okay, so Jenni Kayne is my favorite—for so many reasons—but with fall around the corner, I’ve had more specific questions related to Jenni Kayne knits. To make it simple, I’ve formatted this post into a Q+A with my most frequent questions (and answers) regarding JK knits!

Hope you find this helpful, and that you find the most perfect knit for your wardrobe with the cooler temps ahead!

Q: What Jenni Kayne knit should I start with first?

My first piece from Jenni Kayne (before I was an Ambassador) was her Cocoon Cardigan (I bought it in Oatmeal, the perfect creamy neutral). IMO, this piece is the perfect place to start because it wears beautifully (doesn’t pill!), can be worn for literally any occasion, and is a timeless piece that will remain in your closet forever.

If you’re not willing to splurge quite yet, the Everyday Sweater was also another one of my first pieces—more friendly on the wallet, wears well, and is forever classic.

Q: What are my top favorites knits for Fall?

Again, I love the Cocoon Cardigan, especially in cashmere for the cooler seasons. My other most worn sweater is the Alpaca Cocoon Crewneck (I have it in both charcoal and ivory). I also recently got the Flynn cashmere v-neck, and I foresee myself wearing this a lot this season!

I’ve rounded up all my other favorites here.

Q: How does sizing run with Jenni Kayne knits?

A lot of Jenni Kayne’s pieces are designed to be oversized—and I think she executes on this intention perfectly, so there’s no need to size up or down. I am normally a XS and take my true size in the oversized pieces (e.g., I take a XS in the cocoon cardigan).

I’d say, with the oversized pieces, stay TTS or size down if you’re in between sizes.

For the pieces that are designed true to size, I size up—it’s just my preference to look a little more relaxed. For example, I went up to a Small in the Flynn cashmere v-neck and the Fisherman sweater. If you want a more tailored look, stay TTS, but if you’re like me and prefer a more relaxed look, size up.

Q: Do JK sweaters pill?

NO! It’s amazing. I do have the sweater stone, and literally have never had to use it (I have used it on her alpaca wool blanket and I love it for that).

Q: What candle should I get? Are JK candles clean?

Okay I had to throw a candle question in there (not about knits, but I just got this Q today!) and I have to say they are my ABSOLUTE FAV candles! Yes, they are clean—they are made with coconut wax, my favorite wax, so they have a cleaner, longer burn.

My go-to candle is Basil—it’s subtle and fresh (perf for spring/summer). However, I’ve really loved Topanga lately, which is, IMO, more fragrant and warmer than Basil. I think Topanga will be my fall scent this year (I just bought two more).
