Lessons I Learned in My Twenties

Yesterday, I turned 30. For the last few weeks, I’ve gotten the question: “How do you feel about turning 30?” as if this new decade means I’m now officially over the hill and entered into true adulthood.

I’m only a day in, but I am really thrilled to be entering this decade. Why? Because I absorbed so many lessons in my twenties (which, to me, seemed like the real tough decade, am I right?) so now I have more tools to bring into my thirties.

Here are some of my most profound lessons:

  1. The present moment is the only thing that is real and matters.

  2. The more self-love you have, the less threatened you’ll feel by the world (self-love = safety).

  3. Water, nutrition, movement, and sleep is a pretty reliable recipe for feeling better.

  4. Positivity is the most important and attractive trait. It must be practiced because it won’t come naturally due to our survival hardwiring.

  5. Eat mostly plants.

  6. Skincare over makeup.

  7. Psychedelics can offer major therapeutic benefits.

  8. To a tree, something isn’t “good” or “bad.”  Only people categorize things as good or bad by assigning judgment.

  9. Refrain from asking other people for answers to life’s dilemmas, because all the most important answers exist within yourself.

  10. People project their inner world into the external world. If someone’s not-so-nice to you, they’re likely not-so-nice to themselves as well.

  11. It’s okay to change your mind. In fact, it’s more than okay—it’s a sign that you’re willing to surrender and allow for growth.

  12. Weekly floral in the home is a necessary budget item.

  13. SPF is not overrated—wear it daily.

  14. The nature of life is change and the nature of people is to resist change.

  15. A calm mind, a fit body, and a house full of love—these things cannot be bought. They must be earned.
