Laundry Room Makeover

Exactly one year ago, we bought our new home.

A lot has changed since then, and one of my favorite “before-and-after’s” is our laundry room.

When we toured this home, there was a lot of cherry-toned hickory wood in the house — it felt a bit dated, but I had a lot of confidence in the bones of the home.

Coming from our old house—which had a laundry unit in an unfinished basement—this laundry room felt like a dream. Funny enough, it’s about the size of our old kitchen (even has a similar layout with the window sink, u-shaped countertops, upper cabinetry, etc.).

Perhaps it seems odd to pour love into a a mudroom, but it’s the first room you see when you walk in from the garage. Plus, the space itself is just lovely — it was screaming for some TLC.

Below I share the design details I incorporated into our laundry room.

If you want a full “before” of the laundry room before I touched it, scroll to the bottom.

I replaced the old countertops with this Calacatta Gold marble. I also had our fabricator customize this massive marble sink (I will take this marble sink to my grave!).

I also added a beautiful polished nickel bridge faucet from Waterworks with a side sprayer (from the Classic Easton collection).

To add a little texture and feminine spark, I had a cafe curtain customized for our built-in cabinetry shelves. It is an ivory linen from Schumacher, and I had it done in a pinch-pleat.

For some subtle interest, I added tongue and groove to the walls.

I replaced all the old hardware with unlacquered brass pieces by Rejuvenation (except the door hardware, which is unlacquered brass from Emtek). Love how unlacquered brass patinas overtime.

Our old floors were replaced by 12x12  limestone tiles from Zia Tile (its this buff honed option).

As for paint,  all the cabinets are French Gray by Farrow and Ball, and the walls/trim are Swiss Coffee by BM at 75% strength.

The light above our sink is vintage from a local lighting shop, but you could find similar shades by searching for holophane glass shades online.

Rug is the “Sahara nook” by Armadillo — my favorite jute rugs!

Above is the before — a little paint and good materials make such a difference, right?
