10 Things for October

Dear Reader,

I write to you from a coffee shop on a sunny 75-degree day.

Because it’s warm, I am wearing a short-sleeve tee and jelly flats… but because it’s Fall, I tucked a cashmere cardi in my bag, and I have a hot tea in hand.

Today, Summer weather and Fall charm combine. One of the most special phases on the calendar. To me, this time feels so abundant with its harvests and simple pleasures.

Last week, I took Kennedy to a pumpkin patch. We also went apple-picking and visited a sunflower field to pick flowers.

We've baked homemade sourdough and cinnamon apple desserts (my domestic nature shines in autumn, I suppose).

We’ve taken long morning walks with light jackets.

We’ve admired the greens turn to yellow, then to orange, red, and brown on the trees.

We’ve taken in the aroma of aged leafs, and watered burgundy mums in our outdoor pots.

All life’s cycles are in full effect.

Here, October is really the “last month” we get this temporary magic. Soon enough, my vinyl jellies will be replaced by leather loafers (sharing favorites below), and I’ll need heavier jackets before I hibernate full-time in doors (sharing those next newsletter).

In the meantime, though, I’m taking in all the glory of October.

I hope you do, too.

xx Megan

10 THINGS for October

WEARABLE

  • Tibi Unisex Tees

Tibi has become my latest designer obsession — their subtle design details make an otherwise classic garment feel unique. The Unisex Tee is a great example: a simple tee with the slightest mock, dramatic sleeve and body length, and heavy cotton fabric (also a long sleeve version). I find myself navigating towards these special minimalist pieces lately. Beautiful and versatile in any season of life (I love it on this woman).

  • Silver Earring

If I make a statement with any jewelry, it's my earrings, and come the cooler months, I like the “cooler” tone of silver. I’ve loved my Camille earrings from Lie Studio, so I got the Vera earrings this season (also considering the Elizabeth studs). I love Lie Studio’s pieces for the price-point.

  • Pleated Trousers

A closet essential, in my eyes. I was gifted the new G. Label trousers in ivory, and loved so much I bought the navy in the petite version (they run LONG — the petites work better for me and I’m 5’6”). I also like this baggy camel trouser by Loewe, but don’t love the price, I’m considering these by Frame or these by CoH for a similar story.

  • *Soft* Loafers

Lately, I’ve loved a soft buttery slipper-like loafer. You know, the ones that are less structured and more sock-like. I can’t shut up about Jamie Haller’s loafers, but also, I love The Row’s Lucca and Canal (my favorite, their Canal flat, is a hybrid of a ballet-loafer).

BEAUTY

  • Ice Roller

Beyond beauty benefits, using my ice roller has become my favorite alarm clock. I pull it out of the freezer as I make my coffee. Instant wakeup. To be honest, I don’t love the aesthetic of mine — this one is more my vibe, in case aesthetics also matter to you.

  • Crown Affair Goods

I have been gifted some goods from Crown Affair before, but these I bought out of curiosity: their dry-shampoo and their hair clips. Both, I’m obsessed with. Personally, I like powder dry-shampoo (as opposed to aerosol), and this one is both effective and smells divine (it comes with a soft brush applicator too). The clips are remarkable as well —theirs is a “mini clip” within the big clip, holding the hair exceptionally well. I have both the tortoise and carrara colors.

HOME

  • Flamingo Estate Bar Soap

The most monolithic and invigorating bar soap I’ve ever bought. It’s made with peppermint to leave you feeling tingly and renewed, along with poppy seeds to gently exfoliate your skin. Every shower needs this big chunk of soap (I plan to gift it a lot this holiday season).

  • A Chic Bread Box

Do you ever experience condensation/premature mold in your bread? I have, and finally found a solution with this beautiful copper bread box. It is stunning — so excited to start putting my homemade sourdough in this treasure. (Meganlkarp for a discount on the site).

WELLNESS

  • Pedometer App

I don’t wear a fitness gadget of any kind (aesthetic things), but I did download this app that tracks my steps. The recommended amount is 10k, and it’s been interesting to see how much is required to actually achieve that goal (over 4 miles).

  • Clean Deodorant

I shared on Instagram that I wasn’t a deodorant person — that is, until I became a deodorant person. Evolve Together’s “Havana” has become a signature in my routine. It’s clean, goes on clear, and WORKS. Also, this scent in particular — it’s subtle, yet sexy with cardamom and wood.
