10 Things for January
Dear Reader,
First, happy happy 2024!
Second, I want to say something about Winter.
We’re friends, so I’m going to be honest with you — Winter is my least favorite season. I’m an optimist, though, so I do my best to highlight the beauty within the blizzard. With that, here’s a nice thing I’ll say about about Winter: I love how it’s the season for hibernation.
In my mind, Winter is the time to stop and restore (whereas Spring is the time speed up and prepare, e.g. “spring cleaning”; Summer is the time for full force energy via abundant sunshine; and Fall is a time to harvest and store up for the Winter stop).
Maybe it’s this season, or maybe it’s just my personal season of life, but nothing feels quite as desirable as basking in agenda-free nothingness. Slow mornings with my daughter, absorbing the magic of this pregnancy, warm bathwater and plush sweatpants and my favorite baked banana bread…
Although January seems like a dormant month, I’m actually in need of dormancy right now (especially after last month, filled with holiday bustle and travel, a move into a new home, a family affair with COVID, etc.).
Ironically, I write this as I pack for another trip to Florida in two days… after this, I swear, I have a deep intention to stay put.
In any event, I thought I’d share some things that are helping me cozy up this month (but also… a couple things I’m packing for Florida this week).
Wishing you a happy hibernation szn. <3
xx Megan

10 THINGS
WEARABLE
Decided that an oversized knit + sweatpants will be my MO for the remainder of Winter (because I’m cold and pregnant). Sweats I’m digging: Le Bon Shoppe balloon, Kotn wide leg (less expensive version of the WARDROBE.NYC x Hailey Beiber iteration), and Sablyn's sweatpants with pockets (fan of the green). Also going to try some MATE (because their sweatshirt is my fav).
More for the comfort than any trend, these crochet ballerinas make my feet feel hugged and loved (and heightened my interest in The Row crochet via the RR). More sock-like and understated than the ever-so-popular Marcy crystal mesh flats, the Maiden is bit more my vibe. Will pack these for FL, along with these Marion slides gifted me for Christmas.
Years ago, I bought unisex Celines, which became the only sunglasses I ever wore, so I justified a pair of newbies. Forever fan of round/oval metal sunglasses.
BEAUTY
Nerra sent me their cleansing ritual line, and all is great, but you know what’s exceptionally great? They're freaking dry oil. Always a bit skeptical about a mist application, but it absorbs beautifully and nourishes my skin. Also, the jasmine wood scent is heavenly light (and I’m v sensitive to smells).
After trying/loving a travel size of Oribe’s Alchemy duo, I decided to get the full sized shampoo and conditioner to prevent winter breakage (note: I have used/loved their Gold Lust line for years — just wanted to switch it up).
Always before bed: Goop’s fix and restore balm (on hands and feet). Just replenished — it’s a must for dry season.
HOME
This Light & Dwell post got me nonstop looking at Swedish Floor Lamps (and practicing nonstop restraint to buy one).
Slowly gazing through an array of interior coffee table books (I find more inspiration through a physical book, sorry Pinterest). Top three favorites: A Welcoming Elegance, Provence Style: Decorating with French Country Flair, and The Great American House.
WELLNESS
Bathing before bed — it’s a thing I’ve always done (it just feels right), but lately, I’ve seen several articles explaining this is a legit practice for better sleep. (Tip: use aforementioned body oil post bath.)
Upping up my Vitamin D for the sunless season (and the growing baby girl inside my tummy). Cymbiotika is my go-to for all supplements — I also take their Vitamin C, Magnesium, and Glutathione daily.
