What Would Jane Do?

During my last Q+A on Instagram, a person asked me: how do I know what to shop for?

Halfway joking, I responded that it’s sort of a “What Would Jane Birkin Do?” situation.

Really, though, if I am being honest, Jane Birkin has inspired my wardrobe. Specifically, I am inspired by her effortless simplicity: worn-in denim, white button ups, embroidered feminine details, bucket bags, oversized knits. I cannot deny that so much of my wardrobe makes up these beautiful basics.

More importantly than what she wore, though, is how she wore her pieces. Although simple in style, she carried a poise and energy that made it all feel like it had never been done before.

While Jane Birkin is probably my favorite style icon of all time, I think, at the end of the day, it’s less about the pieces she owned and more about the way she wore them.

Really, she inspires me to to only own beautiful basics, but to truly own them in a way that makes it look like it could have never belonged to anyone else.

Does that make sense?

Some pieces that remind me of Jane below (and see the full collection here, on ShopMy).
