Recipe: Simple Apple Crisp
The other day, I came home from the gym and walked into this incredible aroma — like Fall had entered my home in the sweetest sense.
What is that?, I asked our helper, Sarah.
I made apple crisp! she said.
Okay, not joking, this was without a doubt the highlight of my entire week. There is something so special about what apple crisp does to our souls this time of year — it warms the home and heart, while being so delicious and festive.
I love this recipe in particular because, to me, it’s just enough sweetness without feeling heavy or overindulgent. It’s become my favorite dessert.
I hope you love this one too!

INGREDIENTS
3-4 large apples; cored, thinly sliced
¾ cup coconut oil
¼ cup real maple syrup
3 tablespoon coconut sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
½ cup almond flour
½ cup old fashioned oats
Salt to taste
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 and lightly oil a 9x9 glass pan or casserole dish.
Heat ¼ cup coconut oil in a sauté pan on the stove. Add your sliced apples, maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of the coconut sugar and 1 tablespoon of the cinnamon. Cook over medium heat, stirring regularly, until apples start to caramelize.
Transfer your apple mixture to your oiled pan and spread into an even layer.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine your almond flour, oats, remaining cinnamon and salt. Mix gently with a fork until no lumps remain.
Gently heat the remaining ½ cup coconut sugar on the stove. Once liquified, remove from heat and pour over dry ingredients in bowl. Mix the oil and dry ingredients together with a fork until crumbly. Spread your crumble topping evenly over your apples.
Bake at 350 for 25-30 min. Serve by itself, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
