Reflection: Finding Peace During Chaos
I’m currently writing this blog from my in-law’s home — where my husband and I have stayed while our electricity has been out for the last three days due to a terrible storm (and there’s no ETA for who power will be on again).
Words cannot express my appreciation for my in-laws. They always welcome us (and our dogs!) into their home with loving arms. That said, we do live quite differently. I savor silence, but here, either CNBC or QVC plays in the background at all times. I love my fridge full of produce, my pour-over coffee, my mornings of meditation — things that aren’t present here.
It is funny how, when things fall out place — and we get bit out of our normal rhythm — I adjust in a way that serves me. Actually, this morning, I drank my coffee outside (away from television) to watch the sunrise, and I had this overflowing feeling of gratitude. Gratitude for what is working for me; gratitude for my own power to find peace during a storm.
The truth is: we always have this power, even when the outside world is chaotic. I believed this when we lost our twins halfway through pregnancy last year, and I believe it now. Whether it is heavy political division, the end of a relationship, or unexpectedly living out of a suitcase…
…we always have a power to find our inner peace.
When the external feels messy, these practices ground me in peace:
Get in nature —
The birds, the oxygen, the sun all have healing energy. I ground my bare feet in the planet and absorb the healing vibration (this is called “earthing”).
Consume nature —
I eat (and drink) lots of plants. Plants require sun and water to grow — those healing energies — and when we consume them, we absorb all that nourishing energy along with their micronutrients. Even when I travel, I research the nearest health markets/restaurants to ensure I am well-nourished.
Move the body —
Even if it simply a walk outside. Do something to connect to your physical vessel.
Write it out —
When I travel, I journal. When the world is under lockdown, I journal. When our electricity is out for days, I journal.
Keep Your Rituals —
For me, this is my Seed synbiotic in the morning, my luxe skincare, and my melatonin in the evening. I take these wherever I go (along with a journal, as stated above).
Pray —
Trust that the universe/God/whatever you want to call it has a higher purpose for why you’re here right now. Remember that things happen for us, not against us. Every challenge is a divine opportunity to grow into a more beautiful being.
