Our Bedroom Refresh

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved creating an environment that makes my heart feel at peace (I am such a believer in the feng shui philosophy — that all our physical belongings hold energy that impact our wellbeing).

Over the years, I’ve tried to bring that serene feeling to our home by creating bright, airy spaces with natural grounding materials. However, I long neglected our bedroom, which is sort of silly as we spend so much time in our bedroom (it’s where we sleep, after all). When 2023 hit, I made a pact to myself to create a cozy, serene bedroom.

The Bones

First, I wanted our bedroom to truly feel “refreshed,” so I hired a team to refinish our maple floors, bringing them from a orangey-hue to their raw natural state (I love the look of natural wood). There is no stain on our floors — just a sealant. I also had a team paint a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore’s “Swiss Coffee”. This is my go-to white because it’s clean and light, but has a slightly warm undertone which I love. Our main wall is all windows, so we have gorgeous light that brightens up this warmer white (otherwise, I go with Simply White by BM).

I swear, refinished floors and a paint job can make a 100-year-old home feel new again. It’s amazing.

INTERIOR SELECTS

From an interior standpoint, I wanted to create depth and character by adding lived-in antiques and vintage pieces into a newly painted/refinished room (I sourced all my vintage/antique pieces through Chairish, 1stDibs, and Etsy). Really, each of the projects in my home has taken on a different theme based on what is inspiring me in the moment. For this project, I felt called to go outside my comfort zone to create a space that felt like a cozy European escape.

I went outside my comfort zone by doing things I’ve never done before: re-wiring an old French lamp, buying fabric to have made into throw pillows, and bidding on several unseen antiques on the market.

Some of my favorite antique/finds include: a 1920’s French cushion mirror, 20th century Spanish nightstands, this English tapestry for custom pillows (a last minute touch, inspired by my tapestry wastebin), our pair of 1980’s plaster lamps, and also, a French silver tulip bud vase and silver seashell catch-all.

I also love this iron loop stool I got from Panoplie, along with this RH chandelier that mimics Italian murano glass. These small details bring a unique, understated elegance to the space that I’ve loved so much.

SHOPMY BEDROOM

Time and again, readers will reach out saying they searched high-and-low on my blog looking for my home products and details. Admittedly, I am not very good at documenting the things in my home on my blog, but I have started to use the ShopMy platform with all the details in my home (along with all my personal favorites in health, beauty, closet, etc.).

I will do my best to keep these updated when I add something new! I’ve actually loved using this platform, because it allows me to visualize/link things even if it’s not commissionable, which is helpful for my readers. Also, a great organization tool (and aesthetically pleasing, I think)!

In the meantime, some favorite visuals/details from our bedroom refresh.

Enjoy xx
