Hello, 30’s: Welcome to New Skincare

Being real, I know my skin didn’t change (at least not dramatically) when I went from 29 to 30 years of age. Really, my mind-state changed more. When I turned 30, I took more of an interest in aging skin and started to notice my slight fine lines, my sun spots, the discoloration above my left eyebrow, etc. I started to have more conversations with skincare professionals and think more about my products.

This last month, I’ve added a few products to my skincare regime — products that, I swear, have made a massive difference in my skin’s appearance already.

Here, I share my regime, and I note the list of products I’ve added this last month. Truly, this regime is pretty much what every dermatologist and esthetician deem necessary for everyone’s skincare (at least the ones I’ve spoken to!). The * indicates the newest (and forever) items in regime.

MORNING

  1. Wash face

My favorite cleansers are Chantecaille’s Rice and Geranium and Youth to the People’s Superfood Cleanser.

  2. *Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help build collagen and soften the look of dark spots. I’ve used organic vitamin C’s in the past, but nothing has been as high-performing as iS Clinical's Super Serum. I’ll never be without this stuff — my overall skintone is more even and my sunspots have dramatically decreased.

  3. Moisturize

Augustinus Bader's Rich Cream is 100% worth the hype. I never thought I’d be able to wear a “rich cream” during the day, but the formula is so unique in that it’s rich without being too heavy.

  4. Mineral-based SPF

Not a new thing—I’ve worn SPF during the day for a while to prevent further sun damage. I prefer a mineral to a chemical SPF, and I make sure my mineral includes zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide to block sun rays.

Currently using this mineral-based 50 SPF by Ultrasceuticals and love it. I also like Aveda’s Daily Light Guard.

EVENING

  1. Wash face

Remove any makeup with Natura Bisse’s makeup remover (the best!), and then again, wash with of my favorite cleansers: Chantecaille’s Rice and Geranium and Youth to the People’s Superfood Cleanser.

  2. *Retinol

I use a Revision’s .5% retinol every other night. Retinol is a vitamin A that reduces wrinkles, but it also helps with acne and overall skintone and evenness. My dermatologist calls retinol the “fountain of youth” and considers it a must.

  3. Moisturize

On the nights I don’t use a retinol, I use either my Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum or my Vintner’s Daughter serum underneath my Augustinus Bader Rich Cream (which I always use in the evening).

  4. Eye cream

I’ve used Chantecaille’s Stress Repair for fine lines for the last three months (the container lasts forever!), and really like the silky formula. Can also use on lips. :)
